Some shopping trips happen every year—Christmas, Camping, Thanksgiving. Instead of writing a new list from scratch (and forgetting the same things again), PlateParrot’s Recurring Lists let you build a “Master List” once. When the event is over, you don’t delete it—you simply hit “Reset” to uncheck everything for next time.
Annual Amnesia
It’s the day before your annual camping trip. You are frantically writing a packing list. You know you need marshmallows and hot dogs.
But what about the things you forgot last year? Did you write them down? Probably not. So you go to the store, come back, and realize at the campsite: “We forgot the matches. Again.” We tend to reinvent the wheel for every recurring event—holidays, monthly office restocks, or weekly meal preps. We waste mental energy trying to recall what we need, and we inevitably miss the small, crucial details.
The List That Never Dies
PlateParrot introduces the concept of Recurring Lists. Think of them as permanent templates that track your perfect setup.
You create a “Camping” list once. You add your recipes (“Chili”) and your manual essentials (“Matches”, “Firewood”, “Batteries”). You go shopping and check everything off. The list looks empty. But instead of deleting the list, you leave it there. Next summer, or next month, you open it and tap “Reset for New Cycle.” Instantly, every single item un-checks itself. Your perfect master list is back, ready for action. You start your trip knowing you haven’t forgotten a thing.
How It Works
- Create: Make a new list and toggle “Recurring” in the settings.
- Build: Add recipes and manual items.
- Shop: Check items off as you buy them. They behave like normal.
- Reset: When the event comes around again, tap the Reset button.
- All “Purchased” marks are removed.
- Recipe quantities are recalculated based on your current settings.
- Manual items reappear instantly.
FAQ
What if I bought something as a one-off?
You can delete items permanently from a recurring list if you don’t want them to come back next year.
Do recipe changes update automatically?
Yes. If you improved your “Pancakes” recipe in the library, the next time you reset your “Camping” list, it will ask for the ingredients of the new version.
Can I have multiple recurring lists?
Yes. Create one for “Christmas,” one for “Office Supplies,” and one for “Vacation Packing.”
