Not every supermarket is built the same. PlateParrot lets you reorder categories and create custom aisles—like “Bakery” first or “Pet Food” last—so your shopping list matches your actual walk through the store perfectly.
The “Default Sort” Trap
Most shopping apps are rigid. They assume every human starts in the Produce section and ends at the Frozen Aisle.
But what if your local grocery store puts the Bakery right at the entrance? Or maybe they have a weird layout where “Pharmacy” is next to “Vegetables”? If your app sorts items in a standard order (A-Z or fixed categories), you end up scrolling frantically up and down your list while shopping. Or worse, you realize you need bread (listed at the bottom) when you are already at the checkout (at the top), forcing you to run back through the crowds.
Your Store, Your Map
PlateParrot doesn’t dictate how you shop; it adapts to your reality. You can fully customize the category layout to mirror the floor plan of your favorite supermarket.
If you always grab bread first, drag the “Bakery” category to the very top. If you skip the “Alcohol” aisle entirely, move it to the bottom or hide it. By aligning the app with your physical path, you turn a chaotic scavenger hunt into a smooth, linear trip. You simply check off items from top to bottom as you walk, never having to turn your cart around.
How It Works
Customizing your route is simple and satisfying.
- Go to Settings > Store Sectons.
- You’ll see a list of all standard aisles (Produce, Dairy, Meat, etc.).
- Drag and Drop: Hold the handle on the right and slide “Bakery” up or “Frozen” down.
- Create New: Does your store have a specific “Asian Food” section or a “Bargain Bin”? Create a custom category for it.
The next time you open your shopping list in Supermarket Mode, your items will automatically sort themselves into this new, perfect order.
FAQ
What happens to items without a category?
They appear in a “Miscellaneous” section at the bottom (or wherever you place it), prompting you to assign them so the app learns for next time.
Can I delete categories I don’t use?
Absolutely. If you are vegan, you can delete the “Meat & Fish” category entirely so it never clutters your view.
